Hi, I just posted this on LinkedIn and it seemed apt to share.. Qn: Can you guess what I think is the one thing that produces results more than almost anything else? Follow up. Years ago a friend explained FOCUS as: Follow One Course Until Successful. That captures it well. People who consistently follow up and follow through tend to produce results. The challenge is usually chaos and overwhelm. Who should you follow up with? How should you follow up with them? When should you follow up? Yesterday I was invited to a private JV roundtable. Large audiences. Large client bases. Significant revenues. In 90 minutes everyone shared briefly. Hundreds of potential collaborations and joint ventures were sparked. Today I scheduled time to review my notes. Sorting and prioritising the people I met. Preparing for a strategic call with partners later tonight. This is the step most people skip. Yes, you could use a sophisticated SaaS tool. But garbage data in produces garbage data out. For me it starts with something simple. Excel. Getting the list of names extracted into a usable format took about two minutes. One AI prompt. A quick review. Done. Years ago I had a mentor who would scan stacks of business cards and have a trusted team log them into a control sheet. I even helped do this for thousands of contacts for a private equity principal I worked with. He understandably did not want the private contact details of billionaires and ambassadors circulating without trust.T oday I know I need help - a team even - to follow up properly. Over the years I have met tens of thousands of amazing interesting people. In an ideal world I would speak with them all 1-1 regularly, but that is not possible. I've tried lots of approaches and systems. Do I think any are optimal today? No. I do know that prioritisation and clarity is key, while keeping space for Strategic Alchemy® moments. Last night was one of those. A "chance" conversation with one of TheFiveConnections.com resulting in the invitation to the roundtable. So the real question becomes this: How do we build a system that helps the right follow ups happen at the right time? Curious how you handle this? Together We Thrive, Simon |
